Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday offered a different take on President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is a “hero” in the fight against COVID.
“He said that the Philippines is doing good in the fight against Covid 19 and called his health secretary a ‘hero’. What he really meant was ‘hilo’,” Lacson said in a post on his Twitter account.

On Monday night, Duterte said in his “talk to the people” that the country is doing well in its fight against COVID, and that Duque is a “hero.”
Duque was the one who administered the Sinopharm vaccine on Duterte late Monday.
Lacson earlier scored Duque for his lack of sense of urgency in dealing with the pandemic, citing several instances where the health secretary committed lapses.
He noted it was Duque who “dropped the ball” by not acting quickly on the Philippine government’s efforts to procure Pfizer vaccines from the United States.
Despite the criticisms against Duque, Duterte has so far rejected calls to kick out and replace Duque.
