President Rodrigo Duterte might attend a summit between the United States (U.S.) and the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to be held in the U.S. in March, his spokesman said.

“Given that this is an ASEAN meeting of leaders baka ma-persuade si Presidente. But I will ask him,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.

Through a letter dated January 9, Duterte and nine other leaders of Asean-member countries were invited by U.S. President Donald Trump to join him in Las Vegas in two months’ time.

The invitation was initially communicated during the Asean-US meeting at the Asean Summit and Related Summits held in Bangkok last November.

“This will provide an excellent opportunity for us to broaden and deepen our cooperation on matters of great importance to the nearly one billion people in the United States and ASEAN nations that we have the privilege to represent,” Trump said.
