Baka maging legal pa same sex marriage! Tito Sotto: No chance SOGIE bill ‘focused on gays’ will pass

Senate President Tito Sotto isn’t keen on passing the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s support for it.

In a text message to reporters Wednesday (August 21), Sotto said he is more in favor of a bill banning all forms of discrimination.

“Pero focused on gays, which the SOGIE bill is, and religious and academic freedom impeded plus smuggling of same sex marriage? No chance,” he said.

The SOGIE Equality bill proposes to ban the discrimination of persons based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

There has been a renewed call for its passage in the wake of the discrimination allegedly experienced by transgender woman Gretchen Diez for trying to use the female toilet at a Quezon City mall.

Senator Bong Go, a supporter of the SOGIE bill, said Duterte also wants it to be passed.
