Baka magkahawaan na! BuCor suspends inmates’ visitation privileges over COVID-19 fears

Due to the threat of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag on Tuesday (March 10) has decided to suspend the visitation privileges of inmates in all prison facilities.

The BuCor announced that it has decided to implement its safety protocols for the welfare of stakeholders and has decided with “suspending all visitation privileges for one week starting Wednesday, 11 March 2020 in New Bilibid Prison and all its operating prison and penal farms.”

The BuCor explained in made the move after the Department of Health (DOH) raised the country’s status to Red Alert Sublevel 1 and President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of a publkic health emergency because of COVID-19.

“Code Red Sublevel 1 is a preventive call to alert all public and private healthcare providers’ readiness if a sudden increase of cases happened, just what happened in Italy and other countries in Asia,” the BuCor said.

“Please be guided accordingly and stay safe everyone,” it told the public.
