Baka makahawa! Bilibid inmate tests positive for COVID-19
An inmate of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City has been tested positive with the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed on Thursday (April 23).
“He is the first PDL (persons deprived of liberty) from the NBP to be confirmed positive of the CoVid-19 virus,” the BuCor said in a statement.
Because of this, the BuCor said the NBP management has “calibrated its response and is continually assessing its implementation of operational plans.”
“The male PDL patient from NBP Medium Security Compound was checked at the NBP Hospital on April 17,2020 (Friday) and was referred to the RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine) on the same day where he was admitted,” the BuCor recounted.
“Covid-19 test performed turned out positive,” it added.
Meanwhile, the BuCor said the patient remains confined at the RITM.
“As a precautionary measure, contact tracing was started on the day (Friday, 17 April 2020) he was admitted at the RITM,” BuCor assured
“As a result, 40 PDLs were put in isolated areas on 18 April 2020,” it said.
The BuCor also considered the medical staff who attended to the PDL patient as suspects and are also under quarantine.
