Baka mapahiya ako! Bato admits skipping Pacquiao-Thurman fight over US visa issues
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa admitted he didn’t watch Senator Manny Pacquiao’s most recent boxing match in Las Vegas due to rumors that his United States visa had been cancelled.
Dela Rosa told CNN Philippines Saturday (December 14) that he had heard about the supposed cancellation of his US visa even before it was reported by Politiko.
“Hindi ko na lang tinry manood ng last Pacman fight kasi baka hindi nga ako papasukin at mapahiya lang ako. May tsismis na akong naririnig noon pa prior to the fight,” he said.
Pacquiao’s fight against Keith Thurman for the WBA (Super) welterweight title happened last July.
Politiko reported that the US had cancelled Dela Rosa’s visa since May 2019.
A source told Politiko that US officials had cited the Asia Reassurance Initiative Act (ARIA) as basis for the cancellation of the senator’s visa.
ARIA allows the US to provide $1.5 billion in security assistance to its allies in the Indo-Pacific region on the basis of promoting democracy, human rights and rule of law.
Dela Rosa admitted he had yet to confirm with US authorities if his visa has indeed been cancelled.
“Never pa. Kung may time ka pakitanong doon sa US embassy then pakitext na lang ako kung totoo,” he said.
