Baka may i-’masahe’! Robredo wants Philhealth execs suspended amid corruption probe
Vice President Leni Robredo is calling for the suspension of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) executives tagged in the alleged corruption within the agency as various government bodies proceed with their investigation.
Robredo made the call Sunday (August 9) after Philhealth president and CEO Ricardo Morales and Executive Vice President Arnel De Jesus said they will be skipping the August 11 Senate probe on the agency due to health reasons.
“Ang balita natin, Ka Ely, nag-file ng parang medical leave. Pero baka dapat, Ka Ely, habang ganito ka-grabe ang accusations, ganito katindi, baka kailangang may suspension habang ang investigations ongoing,” she said on her radio show, “Biserbisyong Leni.”
Robredo said the suspension of Philhealth officials will ensure they will not meddle in any ongoing investigation.
“Ganoon naman iyong nangyayari, ‘di ba? Kapag may ongoing investigations, iyong mga people responsible ay dapat sana ma-suspend muna, para hindi ma-compromise iyong integrity ng investigations. Sana ganoon iyong gawin, to show na seryoso tayong sugpuin iyong korapsyon,” she said.
Aside from the Senate, the House of Representatives and Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) are conducting their own investigations on the alleged corruption in Philhealth.
Former Philhealth anti-fraud officer Thorrson Montes Keith claimed at the August 4 Senate hearing that he had been asked by Morales to “massage” the issue on the supposed overpricing of COVID-19 test kits, which was being investigated by PACC.
