The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City has been placed on alert following the riot that led to deaths of nine inmates, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said.
Chaclag said in a statment that “all camps security posts were immediately put on high alert during the incident.”
“All the prison and penal farms under bucor were also advised to be on alert,” he added.
Chaclag said that the riot took place at 1 a.m. Friday (Oct. 9) at Quadrant 4 of the Maximum Security Compound of the NBP and resulted in the deaths of nine inmates and the injury of seven other prisoners.
The spokesman said the riot was stopped by 3:30 a,m. that morning and the following clearing operations resulted in the confiscation of weapons.
“NBP is back to normal operations as of this time and everything is under control,” he assured.
The NBP official said that the riot was sparked by the fight between members of Sigue Sigue Sputnik (SSS) and Sigue Sigue Commando (SSC) gangs
“On going investigation now focuses on the cause of the incident and instigators, identification of PDLs who perished and how to prevent such incidents happening in the future,” he said.
