Bam asks Duterte: Why ignore China’s war threats and punish EU for human rights caution?

Senator Bam Aquino finds its puzzling why President Rodrigo Duterte is not bothered by China’s war threat while making a lot of fuss about the European Union’s threat to cut off aid.

In a column in Abante, Aquino said: ‎”Habang kinondena natin ang EU sa umano’y panghihimasok nito sa usapin ng bansa kapalit ng kanilang tulong, tinanggap naman natin ang tulong at loan na alok ng China sa kabila ng kanilang panghihimasok sa ating teritoryo.”

He asked: “‎ Ano ba ang mas mabigat? Ang kuwestiyunin ang ating karapatang pantao at pagpapatupad ng batas o ang pasukin at agawin ang teritoryo na matagal nang atin?”

‎Aquino questioned one one hand, the silence of the government on China President Xi Jinping’s threat to declare war on the Philippines if it decided to explore the Recto Bank in the disputed Spratly Islands.

‎On the other hand, Aquino noted how Duterte was quick scrap a €250 million (P13.8 billion) grant from the EU to a Muslim community because he opposed a provision in the loan requiring him to respect human rights.

“Dapat ba natin itong ikasama ng loob? Hindi ba’t trabaho ng ating pamahalaan ang pairalin ang batas at protektahan ang karapatang pantao ng mga Pilipino?” asked Aquino.
