Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete has assured that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) is on the lookout for Chinese kidnap groups.
“Our Bureau of Immigration has a standing arrangement with the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group for the identification of those involved in kidnapping operations, and their exclusion or deportation as may be warranted,” he said on Wednesday (Dec. 11).
“It likewise coordinates with the Office of the Police Attache in, among others, the monitoring of the movements of known personalities from China involved in this criminal operations,” he also said.
Perete disclosed this as the Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed concerns over the rise of cases concerning Chinese nationals kidnapping their compatriots.
The PNP said the rise was caused with the increase in the number of Chinese workers of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country.
It noted that there are 42 kidnapping cases this year compared to only 16 last year.
