Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. on Sunday said House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s high trust and approval ratings based on a Pulse Asia survey proves he’s worthy of the speakership post.
“Indeed, the sustained high ratings of Cayetano proved him worthy of the speakership post,” the National Unity Party leader said.
“The Filipino people may hope for more transformative legislations under his leadership and that of the present administration as good ratings were also recorded for President Rodrigo Duterte. Truly, Filipinos may welcome 2020 with hope for more peaceful and progressive Philippines,” Barzaga said.
It was Barzaga who earlier said Cayetano should remain as Speaker despite his gentleman’s agreement with Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco to split the term with Cayetano serving for 15 months and Velasco taking over for the remaining 21 months.
The congressman said the result of the survey showed that Cayetano’s approval rating climbed by 16 notches to 80 percent from 64 percent in September.
The same goes for his trust ratings which went up to 76 percent which is 14 percent higher from his previous 62 percent rating, he added.
“Cayetano’s ratings saw the highest jump among all top government officials,” Barzaga said.
Barzaga attributed the notable spike in the approval and trust ratings of the Speaker to the success of country’s hosting of the Southeast Asian Games, in which Cayetano showed “his competence and commitment” as the head of Philippines Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.
