Special Envoy to China Mon Tulfo believes Senator Cynthia Villar “might as well kiss her ambition goodbye” if she’s interested in running for the presidency because her statements show how out of touch she is with the public.
In his August 7 column for the Manila Times, Tulfo slammed Villar for saying doctors should do their job better as the economy can’t afford another lockdown.
Villar made the statement in response to doctors’ plea for Metro Manila to be placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to slow down the surge in COVID-19 cases.
“This Villar woman has a penchant for shooting herself in the foot with her abrasive statements,” Tulfo said.
He recalled that Villar has also insulted farmers, nurses, the middle class and poor in the past.
Villar had criticized farmers for wanting to become “hacienderos.” She also said there was no need for nurses to have a nursing degree since they will just end up as “room nurses” in the Philippines or caregivers overseas.
The senator also infamously remarked that the middle class do not deserve government aid because they received their salaries during the lockdown. She also advised those who can’t afford galunggong or round scad to find something else to eat.
“For a highly educated woman, Villar is boorish. One wonders whether her husband Manny, also a former senator, teaches her good manners and right conduct,” Tulfo said.
