Bastusan na! Duterte to keep on attacking priests: I won’t run again anyway
President Rodrigo Duterte has no plans of stopping his attacks against priests even if they have blamed his outbursts for the threats they receive.
In a speech in Davao on March 14, Duterte said he does not care about priests’ political clout since he has no plans of running again for public office after his term ends.
“I’m on my third last three years. Third year of the last three years. So? Ano? Bakit ako matakot matalo? Hindi naman ako makatakbo ng eleksyon. Kaya babastusin ko kayo.,” he said.
Duterte said politikos have been afraid of speaking up against priests’ abuses because they were afraid of the power that the clergy wields over voters.
Addressing priests, the President said: “Nobody would criticize you even before — not even the slightest irritation. Takot kasi ang mga politiko, takot ang mga taga-gobyerno sa inyo kasi ‘pag kinalaban kayo, the popular notion that if you are an opponent of the Church, you lose.“
Duterte said he does not care if priests die since there are plenty of space for them at cemeteries.
