Ba’t ‘di pinaghandaan? Robredo slams Meralco-MVP, Luzon power players over power woes
Vice President Leni Robredo has scored the Manila Electric Company and other power players in Luzon over the rotating brownouts affecting certain parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces this month.
Robredo said on her weekly radio show Sunday (April 14) that the power players should have taken steps in advance to meet the anticipated spike in electricity demand due to the hot weather.
“Dahil siguradong tataas iyong consumption, dapat napapaghandaan. Iyong sabi mo nga, may entire department na ang trabaho, asikasuhin ito, so bakit hindi siya napaghandaan?” she said over dzXL radio.
Robredo said consumers should not suffer from rotating brownouts given the technology available at this time.
“Parang wala tayo sa 2019, ‘di ba? Parang, ang dami nang improvement na ginawa, ang dami nang programang inayos. Ano naman, predictable iyong lagay—hindi lang noong consumption pero noong supply. Bakit makakarating sa ganitong sitwasyon?” she asked.
The Luzon grid has been placed under red and yellow alert for the fourth time this month on Monday (April 15) due to insufficient power reserves.
The Department of Energy said the dwindling reserves were caused by the outage of several power plants.
The declaration of red alert means power companies can implement rotating brownouts.
