Why only now?
This is the question Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra is asking on learning Sen. Leila De Lima filed a motion asking the Muntinlupa City regional trial court (RTC) to grant her bail.
“Senator de Lima should have done this a long time ago if she really thought that all the evidence against her were fabricated,” the secretary said.
The senator is facing three drug charges before the RTC over her alleged involvement in the proliferation of illegal drug trading at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
After the Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors filed charges, the RTC issued arrest warrants in February 2017 that led to her arrest.
Since then, De Lima has been detained at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
