Bati na sila! Rudy Fariñas backs Imee Marcos’ senatorial bid
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
Former House Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas has endorsed the senatorial bid of incumbent Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos in the midterm elections next week.
Fariñas made the statement following his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race in Ilocos Norte where he was supposed to battle Marcos’ kin, incumbent Provincial Board Member Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
Fariñas, who led a congressional probe in 2017 into the alleged misused of P66.4- million worth of provincial tobacco funds to purchase vehicles by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte under Marcos, said her victory “would bring honor” to their province.
“Of course (I will support her)… she’s the governor of our province, a position that I previously held for 10 years… same thing I did when Bongbong ran for the vice presidency,” said the former House official.
The Marcos and Fariñas clans had a bittersweet history of both political alliances and feuds in the past.
Fariñas who served as Ilocos Norte governor from 1988 to 1998 said he believes that Board Member Manotoc will serve the province excellently given his “youth and vigor,” just like what he did when he first assumed the said position.
