Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa admitted that he was apparently disappointed when some sectors accused them as ‘bad guys’ despite success in their anti-illegal drug campaign.
Kami ay pulis,” dela Rosa said at the resumption of Senate committee on justice and human rights investigation on extrajudicial killings.
“We are here to serve and protect.
Before this, Senator Gringo Honasan asked De la Rosa what was he felt when Sen. Antoni Trillanes IV suggested relieving police commanders who failed to stop summary killings in their area of responsibility.
The PNP chief added that it was difficult for him to file charges against his men, particularly the case of PO2 Alipio Balo Jr. and PO1 Michael Tomas, the two Pasay policemen who killed drug pusher Jaypee Bertes and his father Renato last month.
Two policemen shot and killed the Berteses after the two allegedly tried to grab their firearms inside the police station in Pasay last July 7, Charges of murder have been filed against Balo and Tomas for the death of the Berteses.
“Masakit sa loob namin na file-an namin murder case, otherwise, sasabihan nag-cover up kami ng tao namin. (Dindo Matining)
