Give the public a respite from additional government fees.
Former Vice President Jojo Binay has asked the government to suspend any planned increase in state fees, charges and penalties during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a Facebook post, the former Makati City mayor said the moratorium on fee hikes is the least the government can do to ease the burden of the people.
“The government should seriously consider imposing a moratorium on all increases in government fees, charges, or penalties until the pandemic is over,” he said.
He also called for the suspension of any new policies that will impose higher public expenses.
“It should also suspend the implementation of new laws and policies that would result in additional expense or added financial burden on our people,” he said.
Binay objected to government attempts to raise revenues by charging more fees from the public.
“Hindi tama na ang inaasikaso ng ibang government agencies ay kung paano tataas ang kita nila habang naghihirap ang ating mga kababayan dahil sa pandemya,” he said.
“This is the least they could do, especially when no additional cash aid or economic relief is being considered this year,” he added.
Binay said the government should lessen the burden of the people already reeling from the pandemic.
“Wala na ngang dagdag na ayuda, kaya bawasan na lang nila ang pahirap sa masa,” he said.
