Berna’s dad was part of original rah-rah boys who urged Duterte to run in 2016

President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that the father of newly-minted Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo Puyat was among the first few people who saw him as potent candidate for president in the 2016 elections.

In a speech, Duterte said former Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo was part of the original group of friends who urged him to run because his iron fist style was what the country needed.

“Itong si Romulo, by the way, the father of Bernadette–people might start to ask questions–he was one of those there with Sonny (Dominguez I) urging me to run and I said I could not because wala akong pera,” Duterte said.

The 84-orld lawyer served as senator during the administrations of former Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos and held other positions under the administrations of former Presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III.

Duterte appointed Romulo chairman and director of the board of the Development Bank of the Philipines.

Duterte appointed Romulo-Puyat as Tourism Secretary just hours after Wanda Teo announced her resignation. Romulo-Puyat was Undersecretary for the Department of Agriculture since July 2017 but she has been with the department as assistant secretary since the Arroyo administration. (With a report frm PNA)
