Embattled ACTS-OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto “John” Bertiz III is still confined at a private hospital in Metro Manila, a week after complaining severe chest pains.
House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez (Quezon Province) confirmed that Bertiz indeed was still in the hospital more than a week after the controversial lawmaker’s supposed outburst against a screening officer of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The incident showing Bertiz’s alleged abuse of authority was caught on the airport’s CCTV footage.
“I was talking to him (over the phone) during the weekend, and I wish him well. Get well soon,” said Suarez.
On October 1, Bertiz was reportedly rushed at the St. Luke’s Medical Center after complaining pain in his chest area.
Deputy Minority Leader Anthony Bravo disclsoed Bertiz already underwent five angioplasty procedures in the past two years ago after having consistent pain in the left portion of his chest.
Bravo said Bertiz is scheduled to undergo two more angioplasties to unclog his remaining two obstructed arteries in his heart.
Bertiz’s hospitalization came a day before the House ethics committee tackled his supposed unparliamentary behavior over the airport incident.
Last Thursday, militant group Migrante filed an ethics complaint againt Bertiz for some irregularities including the illegal activities of his firm the Global Asia Alliance Consultant Inc. Bertiz’s firm has been accused of engaging in “human trafficking” of overseas Filipino workers in the Middle East.
