Senator Risa Hontiveros sent best wishes to US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris after the presidential race has been called by major US media outlets.

In a post on Twitter, Hontiveros particularly lauded Harris for her barrier-breaking victory as the highest ranking woman elected in US government.

The US senator is the first female vice president of the United States. The former California attorney general is also the first Black and Asian woman to occupy the VP post.

“As Chair of the PH Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations & Gender Equality, I applaud @KamalaHarris for her barrier-breaking win as the 1st woman, 1st African-American & 1st South Asian to be US Vice Pres. I wish her all the best in fulfilling the people’s mandate,” Hontiveros tweeted.

Hontiveros hailed the Biden-Harris victory for triggering a sense of purpose among voters. The Democrat tandem win is also a welcome development amid division and “creeping fascism.”

“My heartfelt congratulations to US President-elect @JoeBiden & Vice President-elect @KamalaHarris
for reawakening a strong sense of purpose among their voting public,” she said.

“This win is a salve over the world’s wounds from the divisiveness & creeping fascism of the last few years,” Hontiveros added.
