BI chief: Deportation of overstaying Chinese goes on
Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente has assured that the country continues to kick out illegally staying Chinese nationals.
Morente said that recently the BI deported and banned from re-entering the country eight Chinese who were issued visa-upon-arrival (VUA) as tourists.
“They did not leave before the lapse of their authorized stay without any valid reason or justification. And it took them several months after they arrived before they manifested their intent to depart and return to their country,” Morente said in a statement.
He noted that the eight Chinese arrived in separate dates from November up to January and were only allowed to stay for 30 days without extension.
At the moment, the BI has suspended the government’s VUA program since January due to emerging pandemic.
