Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente on Thursday (May 14) boasted that the BI’s Warden Facility (BIWF) in Taguig City remains free from the deadly 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) amid the spread of the disease in other detention and prison facilities.
Morente disclosed that 84 foreign detainees and 75 BI personnel manning the facility underwent rapid anti-body tests on Tuesday (May 12) and were found to have tested negative of COVID-19.
“BI Commissioner Jaime Morente welcomed the test results as a positive sign that protocols and measures instituted by the BI are helping prevent the spread of the virus among detainees and BI employees at the facility,” the BI said in a statement.
BIWF Chief Remiecar Caguiron said the facility has been on lock down and has not allowed visitations since the start of the pandemic.
She also assured that a medical officer is always on duty to monitor the health of wards and employees.
Caguiron added that the facility also underwent rigorous cleaning and continuous disinfection, while, inmates were required to always sanitize themselves.
The BIWF chief also disclosed the BI’s legal division has identified cases that can be expedited as part of decongestion efforts.
“So far 7 have been deported, while two pregnant women were granted bail,” she noted.
