The Bureau of Immigration (BI) was able to arrest 55 foreign fugitives in 2020, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said.
“Despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought to us, we still managed to apprehend high profile fugitives wanted for serious offenses by authorities in their home countries,” Morente said in a statement.
Morente said the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested the fugitives in various places in the country.
Those arrested included sex offenders, investment scammers, swindlers, and telecommunications fraudsters.
On the other hand, Morente admitted the number of arrested fugitives in 2020 compared to the 420 arrested by FSU operatives in 2019.
