BI warns overstaying foreigners amid COVID-19 crisis: You can be deported anytime
The ongoing enhanced community quarantine won’t be accepted as an excuse for overstaying foreigners in the country, Bureau of Immigration (BI) Spokesperson Dana Sandoval warned on Monday (March 30).
“Do know that aliens who are overstaying, may it be one day or one year, still remain in violation of the Philippine Immigration Act and will be subjected to deportation proceedings,” Sandoval stressed.
The spokesperson made the warning after the BI arrested in Laguna earlier this month a certain Simon John, a foreigner from Myanmar.
“He was the subject of a mission order as he is an overstaying alien,” she said.
“Bail is subject to the assessment and approval of the Commissioner [Jaime Morete], and depends on the merits of the case,” she added.
