Bicam approves 2019 budget: ‘We await President’s veto’ — Andaya
The Senate and the House of Representatives approved on Friday the bicameral committee report on the P3.757-trillion budget for 2019 but the head of the House contingent couldn’t wait for the President to veto some of its questionable earmarks.
Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr., head of the House contingent, said he was now “eagerly awaiting” President Rodrigo Duterte’s veto message striking down the items that were laden with pork.
He also expressed reservations about the General Appropriations Act as being truly representative of the people.
“Will it really be a people’s budget? Will it really be shared for all sectors which at this point in time I doubt it,” Andaya said.
“We eagerly await the veto message and we will take it from there,” he told the body.
Andaya thanked all the members of the bicameral conference committee “for giving me guidance and giving me the chance reestablish the foothold of House of Representatives when it comes to budgeting.
“I think we have done our jobs of course with some compromise along the way,” he said.
