Biggest loser! Duterte snubs Roque as senatorial bet within earshot
Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque must have felt like the biggest loser on Wednesday (January 23) as President Rodrigo Duterte made it clear he won’t endorse him for senator.
Within Roque’s earshot, Duterte told reporters which senatorial candidates have his support for the 2019 elections.
“Well si Angara, si Pia.. Cynthia Villar. Of course, they supported me and I have to support them,” he said, referring to Senators Sonny Angara and Cynthia Villar, and Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano.
Roque stood beside Duterte as he answered questions from the media at the sidelines of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA) Summit in Pasay City.
The President said he would also support the senatorial bid of Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos.
Duterte said his personal slate of senatorial candidates is different from the list endorsed by his party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan.
“Hindi kami magkaintindihan diyan sa — sa exact numbers. But I would be supporting those who supported me during the last elections. Utang na loob ‘yan eh,” he said.
In a speech just before talking to reporters, Duterte mentioned former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino and former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa as the three candidates whom he wants to win in the May senatorial race.
