House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Friday urged the economic managers of the Duterte administration “to move faster on implementation of their policies” as the country’s inflation rate once against reached another 10-year high.
Arroyo made the statement during in ambush interview in Floridablanca, Pampanga, wherein she was asked to comment on the recorded 6.7 percent inflation last September.
“My advice is for the economic team is to move faster on implementation of their policies,” said Arroyo.
The former president said the economic policies of the Duterte Administration were “more or less correct” but the national government should speed up its utilization to ease the burden of the people.
Arroyo stressed that inflation spike was most felt by the people, saying the effective plan to combat the rising prices was to fix the agricultural industry. The former chief executive noted that budget allocation for agricultural sector has decreased to 1.5 percent from 6 percent during her term.
According to Arroyo, the five main drivers of rising inflation was the peso-dollar exchange rate, the stability of rice, fish, and meat supplies, and the oil price.
She said earlier that the national government should address the lack of agricultural supplies which is playing a critical factor in the soaring prices of rice, fish, and meat.
