He is a “proud” product of the first EDSA People Power Revolution; therefore he is on the side of President Benigno Aquino III.
Thus, ran Vice President Jejomar Binay’s logic when he was asked Wednesday if he had anything to do with the alleged coup d’état plans and resignation pleas directed at the beleaguered Commander-in-chief.
“Kung meron akong maipagmamayabang sa pagkatao ko, marunong akong tumanaw ng utang na loob. Hindi naman ako magkakaganito kung ‘di dahil kay Pangulong Cory [Aquino]. At kung hindi dahil sa EDSA [People Power] dahil sa pare-pareho kami sa paniniwala,” Binay said.
(If i can boast anything about myself, it’s that I know how to repay gratitude. I wouldn’t be here if not for President Cory Aquino and EDSA, because we were one in our beliefs.)
Wednesday also marked the 29th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which catapulted the late Cory Aquino, the current Chief Executive’s mother, to the presidency. Late strongman Ferdinand Marcos was unseated as a result of the 1986 peaceful revolt.
” Hindi ako kasama doon (I’m not part of that),” insisted the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) party 2016 standard bearer when asked to comment on the mounting calls for President Aquino’s resignation.
” Ako produkto ako ng EDSA, kailangan manaig ang demokrasya, respetuhin ang ating Saligang Batas (I’m a product of EDSA. Democracy must prevail and the Constitution must be respected). I just have to repeat, I hope and pray that the President can overcome this problem,” said Binay.
Public anger against the Aquino administration is at a high following the bloody Mamasapano incident last month.
It’s been alleged that opposition force leader Binay wants to take advantage of the situation by ousting Aquino, giving him a shortcut to Malacañang as the constitutionally-mandated successor. (Randy K. Ortega)
