Former Vice President Jojo Binay has expressed support for the bill seeking to grant a new franchise of ABS-CBN media network.
In a latest post on Facebook, Binay said it was only proper to revive the ABS-CBN franchise after the injustice made against its employees and the viewers.
“I welcome the news of the filing of a new bill for the franchise renewal of ABS CBN at both houses of Congress,” he said.
Binay also took a jab at former Speaker Alan Cayetano over the junking of the ABS-CBN franchise bill during his stint as head of the Lower House.
“Tama lang na bigyan ng bagong franchise ang ABS-CBN,” he said.
“It’s about time Congress rectifies this justice committed by former Speaker Cayetano not only to the hardworking employees of ABS-CBN who lost their jobs during the pandemic, but to the Filipino people who were deprived of a reliable source of news and information, especially during calamities,” he added.
Senate President Tito Sotto earlier filed a bill calling for the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise which expired last year. Several senators have backed the passage of the bill.
A legislative franchise bill however must start at the Lower House before the Senate can vote on it.
