Vice President Jejomar Binay debunked the insinuation of President Benigno Aquino III that certain “desperate” personalities are taking advantage of the Mamasapano incident to kill the government’s efforts to achieve peace in Mindanao.
“Siguro mayroong nag-ooppose. Pero hindi naman take advantage,” Binay told reporters.
“Basta tayo ay magtulungan sa paghahanap ng pamamaraan upang magkaroon ng lasting peace. Yun lang, sana ang magiging agreement ay tugma sa ating mga batas at saligang batas,” Binay, who was reportedly offered to lead the government with an advisory council, said.
In a 24 Oras news report, former Tarlac governor Margarita Cojuangco, President Aquino’s aunt, said Binay was sent a proposal to lead the government once the President resigns following the Mamasapano tragedy.
Binay denied this, saying: “Hindi ako kasama doon. Hindi ako naniniwala sa objective nila.”
