BIR goes after GMA’s Felipe Gozon, Inquirer’s Paolo Prieto over 13-year-old tax case
A criminal complaint has been filed against GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon and businessman Paolo Prieto for INQ7’s failure to pay P23.5 million in taxes.
The now defunct INQ7 was a partnership between the Philippine Daily Inquirer and GMA Network Inc.
Based on the complaint filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Department of Justice Thursday, INQ7 failed to pay its dues in 2006 in violation
of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997.
“Respondent INQ7 is a domestic corporation primarily engaged in internet publishing. Together with its responsible corporate officer, it is being sued for a total tax deficiency liability for taxable year 2006 amounting to P23,479,467.13, inclusive of increments,” the BIR said in a statement.
Gozon was the chairman of INQ7 while Prieto served as president.
