Bistado na! Duterte to fire another gov’t official

On the heels of former Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo’s resignation, President Rodrigo Duterte announced Wednesday (May 9) that he will fire another government official.

During the presentation of New Generation Currency (NGC) banknotes and coins in Malacanang, Duterte reiterated his frustration over government officials he had to let go due to corruption. He said he was dismayed because they were the ones who pushed him to run for President.

“Karamihan kong nawala sa akin are really the very first person who — ke ganun ang bayan, ke ganun, ganun nang ganun, corruption, there was crime and everything. I said but I’m very sad that they are the very first to go,” he said.

As President, he said he had to check the activities of various government officials such as their trips.

“But those nung nandiyan na… There’s another one coming up,” he said.

Duterte said he does not see the point of going abroad frequently for meetings on climate change unless there are tangible results.

“If it’s really — comes from the heart whether to do work, task. Pero kung climate change dito sa Brussels, then climate change sa Tokyo, climate change dito sa Indonesia, climate change sa Africa, nandoon ka, tapos ang t*** i***** ‘yan ang bagyo pinup**** dito ‘yung isa, palabas ‘yung isa and there’s flood and everything. You have spent millions for that and I do not see any improvement,” he said.

Earlier this week, Teo resigned from her Cabinet post in light of corruption allegations concerning the Department of Tourism’s P60-million payment to a media company owned by her brother, Ben Tulfo, for the airing of its ads.
