Workers deserve to get their 13th month pay.

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has rallied behind the distribution of the salary benefit for workers but asked the government to assist companies affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Malinaw na sa usapin ng pagbibigay ng 13th-month pay sa mga empleyado, kinakailangan ang ayuda ng pamahalaan sa mga kumpanyang nahihirapan dahil sa pandemya,” Marcos said in a Facebook post.

The former senator said a presidential decree issued by his father the late President Ferdinand Marcos requires all employers to
pay their workers 13th-month pay.

“Mula nang maisabatas ang 13th-month Pay sa panunungkulan ng aking ama, hindi pa rin nagbabago ang pangunahing layunin nito – ang makatulong sa bawat manggagawa. Itaguyod natin ang manggagawang Pilipino!” he said.

The Department of Labor and Employment earlier said all employers must release their workers’ 13th month pay on or before December 24 in compliance with the law. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they won’t defer or give exemption with the payment of the benefit for workers.
