Bewared of fake social media accounts of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag, the BuCor warned the public on Saturday (May 23).

The BuCor reminded the public against “persons taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation for their own selfish gains” and have been “using the name and reputation of known personalities and leaders to dupe unsuspecting netizens into donating monies to fake charities.”

“There is an fb (Facebook) account using the good name and reputation of DG Bantag aimed at soliciting donations,” the BuCor said in a statement.

“This is a Fake account,” it stressed.

The BuCor pointed out that Bantag has “not made any request for donation NOR has authorized anyone on his behalf to accept monetary donations on his behalf for whatever purpose.”

“Furthermore, the Bureau of Corrections has not asked anyone nor authorized anyone to do the same,” it added.
