Bye, Mar! Zamora sees mass exodus of LP politikos to Grace’s side
Expect hoardes of Liberal Party members to jump over to Senator Grace Poe’s camp now that she has declared her plan to run for president, House Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora said.
Zamora, a Nacionalista Party stalwart, said he expects a “substantial number” of LP members to join the pro-Poe coalition composed of NP, the Nationalist People’s Coalition, National Unity Party and the Makabayan bloc, in the coming weeks.
The four political groups have been in talks with one another about forming a coalition to support Poe. They met with the senator for dinner at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City a day before she declared her presidential bid at the University of the Philippines Diliman Bahay ng Alumni on Wednesday (Sept. 16).
The discussions, however, were “informal,” and “purely social,” said House Deputy Speaker Girogidi Aggabao, the NPC’s acting president.
Aggabao said he expects the formation of the pro-Poe coalition to halve the administration coalition’s strength because the politikos who will make the big switch are allied with President Benigno Aquino III.
