Cancer na ‘yan! Imee Marcos likens corruption inside BI to deadly disease
Senator Imee Marcos believes corruption inside the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has become worse like cancer following the revelation that several immigration officers accept bribes to allow Chinese nationals to enter the country without proper travel documents.
Marcos said Friday (February 21) it was time that the “cancer” of corruption within BI be treated.
“Ang pastillas ay asukal ang asukal ay nakakakanser. Overhaul na ang BI at kanser na ang sakit sa loob ng immigration,” she said.
During the hearing Thursday, immigration officer 1 Allison Chiong named the BI officials allegedly involved in the “pastillas” scheme, where Chinese nationals pay BI personnel at least P10,000 to easily enter the country.
Chiong said only 10 percent of BI personnel didn’t take part in the modus.
Marcos said the Senate will continue its investigation into the “pastillas” modus to uncover the extent of corruption inside the BI.
“Pupursigihin naming ang imbestigasyon at sigurado ako na sisibakin ang pastilyas gang at lahat ng sindikato sa BI ni Presidente,” she said.
President Rodrigo Duterte has sacked the BI officials allegedly involved in the “pastillas” scheme.
