President Rodrigo Duterte will meet with House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco Tuesday (September 29) to discuss the term sharing agreement he brokered between the two politikos.
Ron Munsayac, executive director of the ruling party PDP-Laban and chairman of its public information committee, said the meeting will take place in Malacañang.
Velasco will be accompanied by leaders of political parties in the House and allies of the administration coalition, Munsayac added.
Earlier in the day, Politiko reported that Duterte will meet with Cayetano and Velasco to ensure that the “15-21” term sharing agreement pushes through.
Under the deal, Cayetano will serve as Speaker for 15 months, until October this year. He will be succeeded by Velasco, who will lead the House until 2022.
Politiko’s source said the details of when Cayetano will hand over the speakership to Velasco will be discussed in the meeting.
In a statement, Velasco said Cayetano’s term as Speaker will end on September 30. He reminded the Taguig lawmaker to honor their agreement.
“That was the pledge made before the President. As true leaders and as examples for our people, both sides are obligated to avoid situations or statements that would subvert the agreement and betray the trust of our people who’ve stood witness to the covenant,” he said.
