Carpio vows to continue fighting over South China Sea despite retirement
Supreme Court (SC) Justice Antonio Carpio on Friday (Oct. 18) has vowed to continue to fight China’s claims over the West Philippine Sea.
Though he will miss being in the SC, Carpio said the issue will take up his time once he retires this October 26.
“I will miss that but we have a bigger foe, we have China,” he told reporters.
“So I think that will consume my time and I don’t think I will be longing to do other things,” he added.
Once he retires, Carpio disclosed that continue his research, writing and holding lectures about the WPS issue.
“I have several invitations to talk about the West Philippine Sea in Japan and in the US,” he said.
“Ii have friends researching on the same subject, who are also interested in the same subject and we agree to meet regularly and see how we should proceed from there,” he added.
On the other hand, he assured the government to help regarding the country’s rights over the WPS.
“I am always available to defend our sovereign rights in the WPS,” he said.
“They want my opinion, my recommendation, I will give it willingly and gladly,” he declared.
