The Sandiganbayan threw out the criminal charges against former Chief Justice Renato Corona, who died last April.

In open court, the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division granted the motion to dismiss filed by the Corona’s lawyers earlier without objection from the prosecution.

The cases, which were filed about two years ago, were for perjury and violation of Section 8 in relation to Section 11 of Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees).

These stemmed from alleged under- and mis-declarations of assets in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

Corona passed away at 67 because of cardiac arrest.
