Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro on Friday asked Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and his supporters in the House to quit their leadership positions after the House rejected Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s offer to resign.
“They should resign from their leadership positions. There’s no shame in admitting defeat at the hands of a better foe,” he said.
In a privilege speech, Castro said it was Velasco, not Cayetano, who did not have “palabra de honor (word of honor)” considering the incumbent Speaker had led the chamber during the most difficult times in the past 15 months while Velasco did not show leadership.
“Who is more honourable: the man who stood with us and led us in one of the most troubled and difficult times in our nation’s history or someone who was nowhere to be seen when we were all struggling to help the country recover?” he said.
Castro also mocked Velasco for having inferior numbers, claiming the House would continue to reject Cayetano’s resignation even if he tried to quit every day.
