Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray on Thursday visited the House of Representatives, wherein she was given proper citation by the chamber following her recent victory in the prestige beauty pageant.
During her visit, Gray said she is willing to learn more about the state of the nation after talking to lawmakers as she expressed gratitude to members of the House leadership for commending her victory.
“Thank you so much for the very warm welcome. It is such a wonderful opportunity to see and speak with the leaders of our country. I am very much open to having conversation with you and learn more about the state of our nation. I hope to be back very soon,” Gray said.
Gray was received by several lawmakers led by Deputy Speaker Mercedes “Chedeng” Alvarez (Negros Occidental) who stood in behalf of House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“It is with great pride and honor for the House of Representatives to have this privilege to meet reigning Miss Universe,” said Alvarez during a simple ceremony held at the Speaker’s Hall.
Arroyo was not present during the event since she reportedly went to Malacañang to attend the oath taking of newly-appointed officials of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC).
Alvarez described Gray as a “modern Filipina, strong, compassionate, kind, smart, and beautiful inside and out.”
She also assured Gray that the leadership of Arroyo is supportive of her advocacy to help underprivileged children.
“The House of Representatives is one with her in her advocacy in promoting and advancing children’s welfare, especially those living in disadvantaged and impoverished communities,” said Alvarez.
The House official later presented Ms. Gray a copy of House Resolution (HR) No. 178 which recognized her victory in the recently concluded Miss Universe beauty pageant.
