Valenzuela Rep. Eric Martinez on Wednesday said former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano may join the “genuine opposition” in the House of Representatives after rejecting Speaker Lord Allan Velasco’s offer of deputy speakership.
“I think yesterday the hand, the gesture of Lord Allan Velasco, though his speech, cooperation was the call, and he offered I think the deputy speaker post and the former House Speaker rejected it,” he said in an ANC interview.
“So the movement and the reading that I see, is most probably Speaker Cayetano would go with the minority and be part of the genuine opposition in Congress, a fiscalizer, and I think that would be healthy for us, and healthy for Congress and healthy for the country,” Martinez said.
“Whatever he thinks, I really can’t surmise at this time,” he said.
But he clarified that: “That’s just my personal take, based on what I saw that he refused the deputy speaker position, I can’t predict the direction.”
