House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday assured Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco that he intends to honor the term-sharing deal between them.
“Wala namang usapan na hindi masusunod e,” the Taguig lawmaker said in an interview in his office.
But the Speaker said he didn’t blame his peers for hoping that he serve a full term of office.
“I mean hindi mo maaalis sa ating mga kongresista na masaya sa mga reforms,” Cayetano said.
“Happy birthday sa kanya at ipanatag niya yung loob niya and use this time din to prepare kasi very daunting yung task ng House, lalo ng Speaker,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, Velasco said the term-sharing deal is still in effect despite the Cayetano’s recent remarks suggesting he would like to stay on.
“Based on the gentleman’s agreement, I will see you next year as the next Speaker of the House,” the chairman of the House energy committee told reporters.
Velasco said that as far as he knows, “tuloy pa rin (ang term-sharing).”
“A gentleman’s agreement is a gentleman’s agreement,” he said.
