Cayetano values friendship with Sara Duterte: She supported my VP and congressional bid

CLARK, Pampanga – Returning Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano said he values the opinion of every member of President Rodrigo Duterte’s family.
Cayetano’s statement came after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s pronouncement last month that the former Foreign Affairs secretary issued “veiled threat” to her that she is about to destroy the administration coalition if ever she decides to openly support the Speakership bid of Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.
Cayetano, in a press conference in Clark, Pampanga on Tuesday said he valued the friendship he forged with the President’s daughter especially that she supported his vice-presidential bid during the 2016 polls and his congressional return during last month’s midterm elections.
“Mayor Sara supported me when I ran for Vice President. I supported silang mag-ama in past events,” said Cayetano.
Cayetano said he feels sorry that the Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte felt he was making a “veiled threat” that she shouldn’t support any aspirants for the House leadership or risk splitting their alliance.
“There’s been some communication pero pabayaan mo muna ma sort-out naming because maaring iba narinig, iba ang pagka-sabi,” he said.
Cayetano stressed that the reason why he came to Davao City some time last year was to pay his respects and explain to her why decided to seek the Speakership.
“My gesture of going there is precisely not only para magkaintindihan, but to show her that I value the opinion of every member of their family,” said Cayetano.
The former chief diplomat hopes that he and the Mayor Duterte will one day sort out their misunderstanding.
