Cayetano’s game plan to become House Speaker: Win Taguig congressional seat, win trust of lawmakers
If he emerges victorious in the congressional race next year, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano is aspiring to become the country’s next speaker of the House of Representatives.
“With all humility, I will seek another term in my hometown, Taguig, Pateros, the district of Taguig and Pateros,” Cayetano said in a media interview posted on his Facebook page.
“I will seek the leadership position in the House,” said Cayetano, admitting that he had a meeting with the President about his political plans.
Cayetano said he must win in his congressional district and then secure the trust and confidence of his fellow lawmakers to become House Speaker.
“It’s a complex matter. You have to win first sa district mo and I want to focus on that first, and then you have to win the trust and confidence of the whole Congress, especially na may specific vision tayo,” he said.
“This won’t be a simple entering Congress and wanting to be Speaker or wanting a new leadership, it’s how you want to pursue this vision in the next three years,” he said.
