Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano became one of the trending topics on Twitter Wednesday (January 13) for riding on the fame of the hit K-pop boy band, BTS.

The hashtag, #CayetanoStopUsingBTS was at one point the third most popular Twitter trend in the Philippines as local BTS fans—called the ARMY—hit him for naming his new group after the K-pop superstars.

Cayetano’s group “BTS Sa Kongreso” is composed of himself and allies who lost their plum House positions when Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco became the Speaker.

“You’re definitely messing up with the wrong Artist, Company and Fandom. Nakakahiya to. #CayetanoStopUsingBTS,” tweeted @weannmxix.

Twitter user @isfortaeonly said: “So who’s gonna tell him that BTS hate corruption and all the dirty stuffs that the government is doing? Better stop using BTS for clout sir. Leave them alone! #CayetanoStopUsingBTS”

“Using Bts name to get fame [smiling emoji]. You suck [vomiting emoji]. Your messing with the wrong artist, fandom and company [grinning emoji]. And what is the connection of Bts in Corruption [grinning emoji]. Stop using their name to get famous cause that will never work [smiling emoji]. Go fuck yourself [middle finger emoji]. Min Yoongi(What do you think?) #CayetanoStopUsingBTS,” tweeted @Sunshine_Tae307

Twitter user @bangtanibnida_ grabbed the opportunity to mobilize fellow ARMYs to register for the 2022 elections.

“I think now is the time to compel PHarmys to register for this 2022 elections. u see, they use BTS to get our votes. Let us prove them wrong. We are not gullible! We won’t allow them to capitalize on our admiration for BTS. We resist this manipulation! #CayetanoStopUsingBTS,” @bangtanibnida_ said.

Joining Cayetano in the group are: Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte Jr, Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez, Batangas Rep. Raneo Abu, Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor and Bulacan Rep. Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado.

BTS Sa Kongreso is set to hold their first press conference Thursday (January 13).
