Instead of taking sides, Ronda town vice mayor Jonnah John Ungab has chosen to stay mum after his wife was slapped with a frustrated murder charge for allegedly attacking a woman she suspects to be her husband’s mistress.
According to a Sun Star report, Jiecel Tiu filed a criminal complaint against Pearl Ungab after the latter rammed her car and hit her with a baseball bat last Thursday at Barangay Cogon-Ramos.
Sought for comment, Ungab told Sun Star Cebu he will not speak about the issue to keep it from getting worse.
“Thank you for your time and effort but as much as possible I want to hold my silence to prevent further damage this issue may bring to all the parties, especially to my children. I sincerely hope you understand,” he said in a text message.
Initial investigation by the police showed that Pearl waited until Tiu left her office at around 5:35 p.m. and proceeded to ram the lawyer’s red sedan.
Pearl reportedly hit Tiu’s car until the lawyer stopped it. The vice mayor’s wife, armed with a baseball bat, then proceeded to forcibly open Tiu’s vehicle.
The 31-year-old lawyer said she was repeatedly hit by Pearl while inside her vehicle and even tried to drag her out. Their fight only stopped when a police officer arrived at the area.
Police said they were unable to bring Pearl to the prosecutor’s office for inquest because she has been confined at a hospital following her confrontation with Tiu. The vice mayor’s wife is reportedly seven weeks pregnant.
