Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno on Saturday (June 6) questioned the decision of police to arrest Anti-Terrorism bill protesters at the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu.
“Mga estudyante sa UP Cebu at mga jeepney driver diretso aresto, pero yung iba diyan nag-mañanita na, abswelto pa,” he said in his latest social media post.
The lawyer is referring to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas who has been criticized for violating quarantine rules for holding a mananita birthday celebration at his office last May.
President Rodrigo Duterte has already defended Sinas who won’t be removed from his post.
“Kung ang batas e pabor lagi sa may kapangyarihan at mayaman, masisisi ba natin ang taumbayang tutol sa Anti-Terror Bill? Anong palagay ninyo?” Diokno pointed out.
Diokno had warned that the bill could be used to run after critics of the government.
