Abogado Chel Diokno has urged President Rodrigo Duterte to keep his cool after the Chief Executive threatened to declare a revolutionary government.
In an interview Friday (April 5), Diokno said Duterte will be reneging on his duty to protect and uphold the Constitution if he makes good on his threat.
“Kapag tinuloy ni Pangulo ‘yan, tinatraydor niya mismo ang ating Saligang Batas. Tinatraydor niya ang taumbayan,” said the abogado, who is running for senator as part of the Otso Diretso slate.
“Ang payo ko lang siguro sa kanya ay ‘wag naman siyang mapikon at’wag naman siya masyadong mainit ang ulo. ‘Chel’ lang siya,” Diokno added.
Duterte on Thursday (April 4) threatened to suspend the writ of habeas corpus and arrest all of his critics after some lawmakers urged the administration to tread carefully in reviewing the contracts that the government signed with foreign entities.
The President then warned that he would declare a “revolutionary war” if he were pushed to a corner, and topped it with a threat to declare a revolutionary government.
Romulo Macalintal, another senatorial candidate of the Otso Diretso slate, said Vice President Leni Robredo will become president if Duterte pushes through with his threat.
